Day 310 - Typical Dutch Design: Delfts Blauw (Delft Blue)

One of the things that is typical Dutch - besides windmills, wooden shoes and tulips - is Dutch pottery, called 'Delfts Blauw'. Delft is the name of the city in which the pottery is produced and painted. Blauw is the name of the color of the painting: blue.

You have probably seen traditional Delfts Blauw vases, plates, tiles, etc. What is interesting that designers are stille interested in the traditional pottery and paintings and patterns, and that it inspires them to create new versions of Delft Blauw.

Below two photo's:
the first one of a traditional plate,
the second is a modern interpretation of the same vase, designed by Piet Paris.
