Day 323 - Minimal graphic design: Delfts Blue Vase

In the collection of Delfts Blauw you have tiles, plates, jars, and of course vases.

As I have not made a vase yet, I decided to draw one. Not the traditional version, but a minimal, modern version of the vase. One that I would like to have in my house. How about you?

Day 320 - Graphic design: new illustration, Delfts Blauw

As you probalvy know, I am working on a new serie of illustrations, This one is inspired by Dutch traditional pottery: Delfts Blauw (Delft Blue).

Delfts Blauw is not only used for pottery, but also for tiles. They were used to cover the walls in the kitchen (the fireplace).

Today's illustration is my interpretation of these tiles. Enjoy!

Day 310 - Typical Dutch Design: Delfts Blauw (Delft Blue)

One of the things that is typical Dutch - besides windmills, wooden shoes and tulips - is Dutch pottery, called 'Delfts Blauw'. Delft is the name of the city in which the pottery is produced and painted. Blauw is the name of the color of the painting: blue.

You have probably seen traditional Delfts Blauw vases, plates, tiles, etc. What is interesting that designers are stille interested in the traditional pottery and paintings and patterns, and that it inspires them to create new versions of Delft Blauw.

Below two photo's:
the first one of a traditional plate,
the second is a modern interpretation of the same vase, designed by Piet Paris.

Day 299 - Dutch Design Week: Strijp-S

Strijp-S is one of the most inspiring areas of the Dutch Design Week.

I love the industrial atmosphere of this quarter, where you find amazing shops, such as Yksi, and wonderful coffee bars and restaurants.

On my way through Strijp-S I suddenly saw these yellow shoes. I followed them. They brought me to an amazing shop-in-shop (I forgot the name :-( ) in which  designers presented their work.

Day 297 - Dutch Design Week 2013: amazing lamp

Today I went to Eindhoven, a city in the southern part of the Netherlands. Each year, in October, they organize the Dutch Design Week.

This year I started my visit at Strijp-S, a former industrial quarter of the city. In the 'Klokgebouw' I saw this amazing lamp, made of... coffee!

Designer Raúl Lauri experimented with coffee, and succeeded in transforming it into a material that can be used for product design. Such as these bowls and this lamp.

Day 223 - Ministeck is back: Stickm In sunglasses and more

In a Dutch concept store I saw 'Stickem In', a dseign label that is inspired by retro toy brand Ministeck.

The idea is that you can pimp Stickem In products with the pixel plugs, allowing you to create you own design. The first product they sell are sunglasses. Below you see some examples. In the future they will also sell other products.

Stickem In is available at HUTSPOT Amsterdam.

Day 204 - Wonder Wall, inspiration at Piet Hein Eek Studio

Last Friday, I went to Eindhoven (Netherlands) and visited the studio of Piet Hein Eek, a Dutch interior designer.

The studio is housed in an industrial building at Strijp S: the creative hotspot of Eindhoven.

One of the things I liked very much was the so-called Wonder Wall, designed by Jan van der Ploeg. The wall has a graphic painting on it, is 10 meters long and 3 meters high.

Nice, isn't it?
