Day 319 - Playing with perception: creative approach of urban space and objects

Benedetto Bufalino, a French artist, designed a picnic table. A wooden table with two wooden benches. Quite normal, or not?

Bufalino plays with scale and perception. His picnic table is huge. The oversized proportions of the picnic table make us look like miniatures. Take a look at the photo's below (source: designboom.com) and be surprised.

Day 279 - Furniture design: 'matroesjka chair'

Vivian Chiu studied Furniture Design at the Rhode Island School of Design.

She designed several chairs. My personal favorite is the Inception chair.
A chair that consists of chairs that are progressively getting smaller.
Like a matroesjka they can be taken apart and/or put together.

Day 227 - Strijp S - Piet Hein Eek restaurant

Yesterday I shared some photo's of the entrance of the studio-shop-gallery with you.

Today, I'll show you some photo's of the cafe-restaurant. I love the way it is decorated, in particularly the beautiful lamps. What do you think of it?

If you are in the neighborhood, visit Strijp S. It's worth it!

Day 206 - Creative hotspot: Strijp S, Eindhoven, the Netherlands

Strijp S, a former idustrial area, has become the creative hotspot of Eindhoven, a town in the southern part of the Netherlands. A town know by Philips, manufacturer of light products, televisions and much more.

When I was at Strijp S, I visited the studio of Ontwerpersduo. They design lamps, tables and candles.

I really love these candles: they are produces in a wide range of colors: which one shoud I buy?
I wanted them all... but finally decided to pick a framboise colored one.

Day 119 - Concept stores: Merci, Parisian concept store (1)

Whenever I go abroad, I like to visit concept stores.

In Paris, I like to go to Merci.

Merci is the first Magasin Solidaire in France: this means that all profit goes to a charity association that helps women and kids in Madagscar.

At Merci you can find design furniture and fashion (vintage and new). Recently, Merci opened a webshop. So if you want to stay updated, visit the shop and website!

Day 54 - Today opening of the exhibition 'Like Pastoe' at Kunsthal Rotterdam

Today is the opening of the exhibition Like Pastoe, 100 years of design innovation at the Kunsthal in Rotterdam.

The exhibition Like Pastoe  gives an overview the rich and successful history of Pastoe, among which designs, photographs and advertising materials.

The announcements for this exhibition are designed by Studio Laucke Siebein. They designed a serie of posters based on the shape of a cube. This cube appeared first in a poster that was made for Pastoe in 1961 by Dick Bruna.
