Day 360 - Product design: landscape carpets

Roosmarijn Pallandt, Dutch designer, designs wonderful carpets.
The starting point for her design are Google Earth photo's.

Pallandt herself says:
"Starting from a bird's eye perspective on a landscape and it's climate, RUGS zoom in to the pixel of a computer scree and results in carpets of 1 x 1 meter; catching a piece of the planet into a rug on your floor."

Day 353 - Minimal Xmas lllustration: Rudolph the red nose rendeer

Today another Xmas oneliner.

Yesterday I posted the Christmas tree. Today I hesitated between Christmas balls, candles, and more.
At the end I decided to draw Rudolph the red nose rendeer. Just because he makes me smile :-)

It's been a long time since the ast oneliner I have drawn.

Day 348 - Product design: warm your hands with these sweater mugs

I just came home from a walk with my dog. A little cold. Winter is on its way. So I decided to make a cup of hot tea.

I would like to have the cute and cozy mugs you see below. Mugs, made of porcelain, that wear little sweaters and warm your hands and your body :-)

They are for sale at Yanko Design.

Day 344 - Product design: cute lipstick mug

On Pinterest I saw this cute and creative mug.

The first mug on which lipstick is not disturbing.
On the contrary, it even adds a special effect!

Day 342 - Contemporary art: illusive light installation in the dessert

Philip K Smith III made an amazing installation.

He modified a wooden cabin in Joshua Tree, California, and transformed it into an illusive object.
By adding mirrors to the cabin, he succeeded in creating a 'transparant' installation that seems to be part of its surroundings. The title of this installation is Lucid Stead

Day 335 - Graphic design: creative solution for fire prevention

Every company has to care about fire protection.

Unfortunately, fire extinguishers are not very nice objects. Their color, form and size may even be very disturbing in your interior.

Talent & Pro, a Dutch company, found a very creative solution. They succeeded in integrating the extinguishers in their office by drawing illustrations around them.

As you can see, one extinguisher is transformed into a headset whereas the second became a diver's oxygen cylinder.

Day 334 - Photography in black and white: surrealism

I admire the power of minimalistic work, whether it is graphic design or photography.

One of the photographers I like very much is the work of Spanish photographer Chema Madoz.
The reason I like his work is that it is both minimalitic and surrealistic.

Below you see two examples of his work. Visit his website to see more of his work!

Day 332 - Photography - streets of the world

Dutch photographer Jeroen Swolfs started in 2009 with an amazing photography challenge, entitled Streets of the World.

His goal is to visit all capital cities of the world and to take photo's of the people and street life in these cities.

At this moment he has visited 3 continents and he is heading! You can follow his project and his journey at www.facebook.com/streetsoftheworld.

Day 330 - Amazing sculptures: Les voyageurs de Marseille

Marseille is the European Capital of Culture 2013. There are a lot of events in the city.

One of them is an exhibition of sculptures from Bruno Catalano: Les voyageurs. What is so special about these sculptures, is that they are incomplete. The missing parts symbolize the fact that we all travel to fill up the missing parts in our life. Nice, ain't it?

Day 326 - Shaping time with the cube calendar

Philip Stroomberg created a calendar. Not an ordinary calendar that lets you turn pages. This calendar is an object, a massive block that asks to be touched, to be picked up and to be teared in pieces.

Stroomberg calls it 'The Cube Calendar'. A calendar that has the shape of a cube and consist of tear-off cards. Not a messy one, but a real design calendar.

Still looking for a 'Sinterklaas' or Christmas present? This is the perfect one!
For sale at www.thecubecalendar.com.

And no, I do not know them and have no interest in making you buy one. I just think that this is a great calendar and wish you luck in shaping your 2014.

Day 325 - Photography: Surrealistic creations

Did you ever try to create surrealistic photo's with photoshop? It is not always easy to create a new, interesting image.

Ionut Caras, a photographer from Romania, succeeds very well in creating amazing photo manipulations. How about this girl on a swing, high in the sky.

Want to see more of his work? Visit his website.

Day 324 - Underwater holiday: sleeping between the fishes

Yeah,  I love this hotel room. It's floating in the sea, like an island. And what like most about it, is that is has an underwater bedroom where you can admire fishes and other sea life.  And of course there is also room for sunbathing and lounging: on the top floor.

Want to know where you can find this amazing hotel room?
It is located in the Manta Resort.

Day 319 - Playing with perception: creative approach of urban space and objects

Benedetto Bufalino, a French artist, designed a picnic table. A wooden table with two wooden benches. Quite normal, or not?

Bufalino plays with scale and perception. His picnic table is huge. The oversized proportions of the picnic table make us look like miniatures. Take a look at the photo's below (source: designboom.com) and be surprised.
