Day 301 - Minimal illustration: stormy weather

Today the weather is really stormy: the wind is blowing, leaves are flying around, trees are falling down, trains stop riding... People are told to stay inside.

Tis stormy day inspired me to make this illustration of windmills. As you can see, one of them has fallen down... even the windmills can't resist the storm.

Day 300 - Fashio design: fashion illustrations made of leaves

It's autumn. Leaves are falling, the wind is blowing and for some reason it inspires many designers.
Photographers, but also illustrators. Such as Tang Chiew Ling form Malaysia. She creates the most beautiful fashion illustrations by combining her drawings with leaves.

Here are two of her illustrations.

Day 299 - Dutch Design Week: Strijp-S

Strijp-S is one of the most inspiring areas of the Dutch Design Week.

I love the industrial atmosphere of this quarter, where you find amazing shops, such as Yksi, and wonderful coffee bars and restaurants.

On my way through Strijp-S I suddenly saw these yellow shoes. I followed them. They brought me to an amazing shop-in-shop (I forgot the name :-( ) in which  designers presented their work.

Day 297 - Dutch Design Week 2013: amazing lamp

Today I went to Eindhoven, a city in the southern part of the Netherlands. Each year, in October, they organize the Dutch Design Week.

This year I started my visit at Strijp-S, a former industrial quarter of the city. In the 'Klokgebouw' I saw this amazing lamp, made of... coffee!

Designer Raúl Lauri experimented with coffee, and succeeded in transforming it into a material that can be used for product design. Such as these bowls and this lamp.

Yesterday was a friday. Althougj it was not friday the 13th, it was not a lucky day for me.

But the at six the adapter of the router gave up... Ana again we had no internet...

Today still nothing. Trying to find another adaptor.

Hope to be back soon with some inspiration.

For now: I'll first have coffee!

Day 287 - Typography and kerning: the roof of the new bus station in Amsterdam

The Central Station in Amsterdam is under construction.

One of the largest projects is building of a new roof on the bus station that is situated the train station. The roof is made of glass and it is decorated with the word 'AMSTERDAM'. The letters are mad of colored glass (orange and red).

Yesterday I read an article about this roof on Typographica. The article describes a few worrisome facts, such as the fact that the spacing between the first A and M is 5 windows, whereas the space between the final A and M is only 4 windows...

Want tk know more about it? Read the article here or take the train or bus to Amsterdam to see it with your own eyes.

Anyway, I like this roof and do not mind abut the kerning...

The sky was cloudy, it rained now and then. Nevertheless, I had the opportunity to take a lot of of photo's. When I walked around the building, I saw this piece of  'street art'.

Someone wrote 'ik herhaal ik herhaal ik herhaal...' with chalk on the pavement. 'Ik herhaal' means 'I repeat'. It was repeated at least thirty times....
