Day 249 - My visit to the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam

Yesterday I visitied the Rijksmuseum. 

One of the things I really loved was the giant ceiling painting, made by the British artist Richard Wright. He painted more than 47,000 black stars on a white background. What makes is special is that he painted these stars directly onto the ceiling.

Day 246 - Experimenting with evening photography: the Atomium in Brussels

From time to time I go out in the evening to take photo's.
I like to experiment with my camera.

Here are two photo's I took in Brussels, from the Atomium.
As I had to hold the camera in my hand, it wasn't easy to make sharp photo's.

What do you think of these? The little lights that reflect in the 'balls' seem little birds.
I like them!

Day 195 - New hotspot at NDSM wharf, Amsterdam: PLLEK

PLLEK opened in 2012 and has become a new creative hotspot at the NDSM wharf in Amsterdam.

The building is made of raw industrial materials, such as sea containers.
It houses a restaurant and cafe. Besides eating and drinking, there is also the possibility to participate to workshops (e.g. yoga) and watch movies.

Day 172 - Creative hotspot: Sunday Market Amsterdam, shopping for art, fashion and design!

Shop till you drop and get inspired...
This is what he Sunday Market in Amsterdam is about.

The market is inspired on markets such as Camden, Portobello and Spitalfield in London.
Markets where shopping and creativity come together, where designers and students present their creations and where you can meet, eat and have a drink.

The Sunday Market in Amsterdam is held every first sunday of the month,
from 12 - 6 PM at the Westergasfabriek.

The place to be if you like shopping for art, fashion and design.

Day 159 - Tomorrow's the big day: MoBA 2013 - Fetishism in Fashion

Tomorrow is the start of the fifth edition of MoBA, the Fashion Biennale of Arnhem (Netherlands)

The theme Fetishism in Fashion was chosen by Lidewij Edelkoort.
And it will be present in exhibitions, theatre, dance, films and workshops.

MoBA 2013 starts tomorrow, June 9, and ends on July 21.

Day 150 - DIY photography exhibition 1000 Photos Amsterdam in Melkweg Gallery

1000 Photos is a DIY exhibition in Amsterdam that can be visited from May 16 until June 16.
The location of the exhibition is: Melkweg Galerie in Amsterdam.

The exhibition consists of 15x20 cm photos donated by professional and amateur photographers.
The them of the exhibition is inside/outside.

On the final day of the exhibition the photos are sold for only 10 euro each in order to raise funds for Young in Prison. Young in Prison gives children behind bars perspective and skills for the future by creative projects.

Day 89 - New hotspot in Amsterdam: conceptstore Hutspot

Amsterdam has a new creative hotspot: Hutspot in the Van Woustraat.

Hutspot is a concept store, gallery and cafe in one. In the store you find trendy clothes, gadgets, art and more. Hutspot is a nice place to have coffee or lunch, meet creative people and shop and discover new brands and products.

Day 60 - Graffiti art at the NDSM wharf in Amsterdam (2)

The NDSM wharf in Amsterdam is an eldorado for graffiti artists. 

The former hangars, with their large brick walls, are ideal backgrounds.

Day 58 - Graffiti art at the NDSM wharf in Amsterdam

During my visit to the NDSM wharf in Amsterdam I discovered a lot of graffiti:
from simple words to elaborate wall paintings.

Graffiti is generally considered as vandalism. However, it is also an artistic expression
and sometimes even art. At the NDSM wharf I saw many creative and interesting wall paintings, such as the two you see below.

Day 52 - NSDM wharf, creative hotspot of Amsterdam (2)

The old NDSM wharf in Amsterdam north is a shelter for creatives.

The large hangars of the ship building industry are filled with containers. These containers are hired by creative companies and artists. One of the hangars even includes a skate park.

When visiting Amsterdam, you should really take the ferry to visit this inspiring part of the city!

Day 51 - NSDM wharf, creative hotspot of Amsterdam

Yesterday, I told you about my trip to Amsterdam.

At the EYE we took the ferry back to the Central Station.
From there we took the ferry to NSDM wharf. The former ship wharf is one of the most important breeding grounds for designers and artists.
