Day 134 - Design I like: cute birdhouse (seen in Maastricht)

Last Sunday I was in Maastricht, a large city in the south of the Netherlands.

Maastricht is Dutch, but the atmosphere is definitely Parisian. It has luxury stores, lively shopping streets and a Burgundian lifestyle.

Of course I went to 'Wyck', a quarter with trendy boutiques and restaurants, art galleries and interior design shops.

In the Rechtstraat I discovered a boutique that sells this wooden birdhouse: a cafe for birds!
Cute, isn't it?

Day 133 - Photography: Behind the edge, patterns and structure in architecture

Luigi Bonaventura, photographer, made a wonderful serie of photos from the fronts of hotels at Jesolo Beach, Venice. The title of this serie is Behind the edge.

Instead of just taking photos of the hotels, he searched for structure and patterns and tried to show them in an 'architectural' way. By doing so his photos look unreal. It seems as if the hotels are abandoned: the balconies all look the same, there are virtually no traces of the guests that occupy the rooms.

Day 131 - Photography: what if we could see what someone is thinking...

Nacho Ormaechea, a Spanish graphic designer, lived and worked for a decade in Paris.

During this period he started the project 'Le carnet noir'. He tells the stories of faceless characters by blending their silhouettes with vivid photographs. With these photographs he manages to tell us what his characters think, feel, read, want... etc.

Day 130 - Photography Berlin, Reichstag: experimenting with digital double exposure

With double exposure it is possible to create really magic photos.

During my stay in Berlin I took photos of the Reichstag. I combined one of these photos with a photo of an art work, representing the city of Berlin, and varied the blending mode.

This is the result:

Lighten up someone's day by giving him or her a compliment.

That's the idea of the free compliment poster, that was designed by Kind over Matter. Download the pdf for free, print it and hang it up wherever you like: work, library, bus stop, school...

Let's encourage 'niceness' and spread compliments all over our world!

Day 128 - Paper art: delicate and beautiful papercuts

Below you see three paper cuts made by Peter Callesen.

Peter Callesen is a paper artist: through delicate cuts he transforms ordinary sheets of A4 paper into real pieces of artwork. Each sheet transforms slowly into a story: sometimes dramatic, sometimes, romantic...

My favorite one is the first one, entitled 'Holding on to Myself.
Simple, minimalistic and at the same time dramatic and exciting.
