Day 273 - Exhibition James Turrell: An explosion of light, color and space (New York, 2013)

During my trip to New York City (August 2013), I went to the Guggenheim museum.

There was an exhibition of James Turrell. He created a major project that transformed the Guggenheim rotunda into an enormous volume filled with light. This was a great experience.

Day 254 - Color burst: Rainbows

Yesterday I told you about the rainbow stairs. All these colors make me so happy.
So I browsed the internet and decided to show you more of these colorful projects.

Day 253 - Burst of color: Rainbow stairs appear all over Turkey

The first rainbow stairs were painted by Huseyin Cetinel. His aim was 'to make people smile'.

Unfortunately, the authorities did not like Cetinel's project and they repainted the stairs with grey paint.
This was the starting point for activists all over the country to paint stairs in rainbow colors. From the East to the West, form the North to the South, there are rainbow stairs all over the country as a sign of anti-government protests.

Day 250 - Design: Color your life with these rainbow pencils

Colors are fun, they make me happy.

When I saw these rainbow pencils it was love at first sight. The pencils, designed by Duncan Shotton, are made from recycled paper. Each time you sharpen them, you create the most amazing rainbows...

The aim of Shotton's project is to bring happiness to people in their everyday lifes.

Day 225 - Wonder Wall, inspiration at Piet Hein Eek Studio (2)

As I told a while ago, I have been at the Piet Hein Eek Studio in Eindhoven.

The studio is housed in an industrial building at Strijp S. In this studio, Piet Hein Eek shows his furniture designs. Varying from tables, chairs, beds to lamps and cupboards.

In his studio, there is also room for other designers. I already showed you an overview of the painted Wonder Wall by Jan van der Ploeg. Today I will show you some photo's of details of this wall.

Day 199 - Graphic design: minimal summer illustration, playing checkers

Although I am not a checkers fan, I made an illustration of this game.

Not the traditional one, in black and white, but a refreshing one, in summer colors.

Day 156 - Paper art: free creative and colorful printables for kids

Mr Printables is a website with creative and colorful paper craft for kids:
puzzles, paper dolls, invitations, hats and - my favorite - finger puppets such as snakes and birds.

Day 155 - Amazing 4D typography by studio Lo Siento from Spain

Lo Siento, a Spanish design studio, made a very special cover for Wired Magazine UK.

They developed a 4D typography by injecting a colored liquid into plastic bubble wrapping paper.

Day 143 - Free font for graphic designers: Multicolore

Fontfabric type foundry offers several free fonts on their website.
One of them is this multi colored vector font, designed by Ivan Filipov from Bulgaria.

Mulicolore is not only available in .otf but also in vector format (.eps and .ai), so you can easily create your own color varieties. Below you find some examples (source: Fontfabric)

Day 133 - Photography: Behind the edge, patterns and structure in architecture

Luigi Bonaventura, photographer, made a wonderful serie of photos from the fronts of hotels at Jesolo Beach, Venice. The title of this serie is Behind the edge.

Instead of just taking photos of the hotels, he searched for structure and patterns and tried to show them in an 'architectural' way. By doing so his photos look unreal. It seems as if the hotels are abandoned: the balconies all look the same, there are virtually no traces of the guests that occupy the rooms.

Day 107 - Boomerang card design: Tulips from Amsterdam

This card belongs to a serie of cards with the theme 'Flowers'.

The first one in this serie is called, of course,
Tulips from Amsterdam.

The colors of this card refer not only to spring, but also to the celebration of 'Koninginnedag' (Queendsday).

Day 88 - The colorful building of the Dutch Institute for Sound and Vision (2)

Yesterday I told you a little about the architecture of the Institute for Sound and Vision in Hilversum, the Netherlands.

During my visit, which I recommend (!), I took the following photographs inside the building.

Day 87 - The colorful building of the Dutch Institute for Sound and Vision

The building of the Dutch Institute for Sound and Vision was designed by architect Piet Eling.

The project, that was completed in 2006, resulted on the outside in a colorful building.
On the inside sunlight streams through the colored glass and transforms it into a cathedral.

The institute is one of the largest audiovisual archives in Europe.  It contains more than 750.00 hours of television, film, radio and music (1898-today).

Day 49 - Spring is in the air!

Finally, the snow has gone and the temperatures are going up.
Today the sun is shining and the birds are busy building nests...

Spring is on it's way!

And when you live in the Netherlands, spring means also tulips!

Day 31 - Follow the red line!

Follow the red line is a project by EAGER magazine. 

The project consists of a serie of photos, self portraits, connected by a red line. This red line can be anything. The red line has to enter the photo on the left side and it has to leave it somewhere on the right side.

Join the project, and be part of the longest photo serie ever...

Day 20 - Color of the year: Emerald!

Pantone has chosen the color of the year 2013.

In 2010 it was turquoise,
in 2011 it was honeysuckle,
and last year it was tangerine tango.

This year it is Emerald green!
A color that promotes balance and harmony.
